"Miss" in Concert

I'm sure you have all heard of the rock band "Kiss", well I joined the spin off, "Miss." We had our debut December 19 at the faculty assembly at Uintah High School.

We lipsynced "I Want to Rock 'n Roll All Night." There were helpers in the balcony that threw streamers into the audience when we started singing.

I have to admit the audience thought we were pretty awesome! Our groupies even rushed the stage and the school cop had to keep them back.

None of us can stick our tongues out as far as Gene Simmons, so we made fake tongues and glued them to party "blow outs." We blew them at the end of the performance--that was as close as we could get.

After the "tongue sticking out" was over, one of our group members smashed her guitar on stage. The audience loved it!!! Then, we threw candy as we ran down the aisles, and out the back doors of the auditorium.

Later that day, some studentes came to get our signatures on the guitar. I'm not exactly sure what happened to it after that.

I think some of my students were shocked when it dawned on them that I was a member of the band.

The Good News

I've been getting harassment from many of you about my lack of posting, so here it is. I finally have something to blog about.

There has been a change in the funding for Mark's job, and driving a state car to his out-of-town meetings is no longer part of the deal. He travels to Logan or Salt Lake about once a month and St. George every January. Since he will have to take one of our vehicles, we decided it was time to get a newer car.

We began to search the Internet for an affordable deal. We found some options, so Saturday, we took a trip to Salt Lake. The short version of the story is, we planned on getting a used 2008, but the salesman made us a great deal on a brand new 2009--not much more than the used one, and with the 2.9% financing, the payments were lower than a used one. We decided to take the deal, and are now the proud owners of a 2009 Nissan Altima. It's a nice looking car!

The Bad News

Well, we drove the car off the lot, and started home. It was about 5:20 p.m., so it was soon dark. About an hour and a half later, out of the middle of no where, there were 2 deer! We managed to miss the first one, but the second one hit us. . . .yes, I said "hit us." We did not hit it. The stupid thing ran right down the side of our new car!!!! I heard the THUD and thought, you've got to be kidding me, this can't be happening.

Mark got out of the car to assess the damage, pick up parts off the road, and look for the deer. I just sat there. . . I didn't want to look. Finally, I got the nerve to get out to see what happened. It wasn't as bad as it could have been. The deer swiped down the driver's side of the car. the front door had the most damage.

Yes, it's sad and we feel awful about it, but it could have been worse, we could still drive the car and neither one of us were hurt. Sometimes we don't know why bad things happen, but maybe it saved us from something else.

Monday morning, Mark took the car to Sam's Body Shop. Sam bent the door so it won't catch every time we open it. They ordered the parts and will call us when they come. In the meantime, we can still drive it. Hopefully, it will not be too long before it looks new again.

In the Hood

I have had so much fun reading everyone's blogs that I decided I should give it a try.

April 12, 2008, we took James and Andrew to Logan to Rachel's Jr. Oboe Recital. She treated us to a spectacular performance!

On the way home, I looked in the back of the van to see what the boys were doing. They were playing Game Boy and trying to keep the sun's glare off their screens. It lends a new meaning to "boys in the hood."

Jason didn't go on the trip with us because he was going to Prom. What a handsome guy!!!

Solo Federation
James and Andrew both received a Superior rating a Solo Federation this year. This was Andrew's 3rd year in a row with a Superior rating--a total of 15 points, which earned him a trophy!!!
